The Kaisers – “What You Gonna Say?” / “You Don’t Care” (Screaming Apple) 1999
I have several Kaisers records in my archive but this is their first outing on my ‘Monocled Alchemist’ blog. For those who don’t know they’re a sixties revival group from Edinburgh who have been on and off the scene since the early nineties.
Their music can probably be described as Hamburg era Beatle beat using vintage instruments and recording facilities. Therefore they sound authentic and are well worth your interest.
“What You Gonna Say?”, written by guitarist George Miller, rattles along at a good pace and includes a clean guitar break that raises the beatitude to high levels. A very good number.
On the flip side there’s a wonderful version of “You Don’t Care”, an obscure B-side released in 1965 by Arthur Alexander and also later recorded by The Raunch Hands in 2008.
As it turned out, this was The Kaisers’ last single for quite some time as they drifted away from recording and gigs.
