The R U Handies – “Raining Teardrops” / “Leave My Kitten Alone” (Steak Records RAW-1) July 2021
R U Handies – Raining Teardrops: This is one of those fun records that wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. Imagine the scene. It’s mid-winter in England and we’re in a strict Covid-19 lock-down.
Creator types didn’t let that get them down and many groups and musicians wrote songs and played live during online meetings.
Two members of The Embrooks decided to record something to tape which was so damned good that it was suggested that they should really release those recordings on a limited edition single.
Only 60 copies were pressed and those sold immediately to eager fans keen to add such a rarity to their record collections.
“Raining Teardrops” is a solid remake of the Barrington Davis freakbeat cruncher. The arrangement is simple and the mono recording sounds raw and edgy. Authentic garage style guitar break adds to it’s charm.
the other side showcases “Leave My Kitten Alone”, a firm favourite with rock and roll combos over the years including The First Gear, The Sonics, The Kaisers, The Gruesomes . . . among many, many others.
There’s more wild guitar on top of a ravin’ beat. A really good effort and probably nailed live with few overdubs.
I realise that this was lock-down tom-foolery, but when it’s this good I’m most certainly in on the scene.
Misc details:
Mole: Due to popular demand (or a colossal ego massage—actually a little of both), The R U Handies (in association with Steak Records) are supremely swollen about the trouser (or have a massive wide-on—we’re all-inclusive here!) to announce a forthcoming physical release!
Not exactly sure at this stage when it’ll be ready, but the wheels are in motion…this will be a super-limited, numbered lathe-cut 45 (60 copies) in a mixture of black and transparent vinyl, most likely in a plain sleeve with an insert, and is likely to be about £12.

Give us a shout if you fancy one!
This was fun! Major thanks to Russ Wilkins for making our desires reality at Rochester Cutting Room. Even got a little shout out yesterday at Weirdsville, from The Gruesomes bassman, John Davis!
Rollicking backyard blitz of Aussie psych-rocker Barrington Davis‘s 1967 single. As ever, Mole never misses a chance to show off his items of intimate apparel – and hopefully no lush vintage gear was overly moistened in the making of this motion picture.
Recorded at North Down Sound Studios between January and April 2021.
A “Steak” Production.
Heavyweight vinyl, so heavy in fact, that it could probably be used as a plate for your steak and chips.
