“Hurtin’ My Heart” / “How I Learned (To Say Goodbye)” (Soundflat Records SFR-45-064) April 2024
Mooon | Hurtin’ My Heart | (Soundflat) 2024 | Although Mooon have been on my radar for several years I’ve never bothered to buy any of their records until now. “Hurtin’ My Heart” is a recent purchase and unbeknown to me is almost two years old.
Needless to say I’ve got some catching up to do, but this MONO single will do just fine until I source more of their material.
“Hurtin’ My Heart” is a strong rhythm and beat original that bounds along in good fashion with reverbed guitar and groovy compact organ. The drummer, Gijs de Jong keeps a meticulous beat which is underpinned by loud bass notes. Gijs is drumming for the Higher State nowadays too.
The flip merges classic mid-sixties folk-jangle with a freakbeat rave-up, kind of like the Dovers meets the Birds. Now if those bands are your bag you’re gonna flip for “How I Learned (To Say Goodbye).”

New 7″ coming up on April 19th!
Entering the world of MOOON is like entering a time machine. The young Brabant power trio, consisting of brothers Tom and Gijs de Jong and their cousin Timo van Lierop, takes the listener to the Golden Age of pop music: the heyday of psychedelia in the 60s and 70s.
Following up their recently released LP ‘III’, here comes a brand-new 7″ by MOOON. Featuring a mono-version of “Hurtin’ My Heart”, taken from their latest album “III” and on the B-side an unreleased song from the same session; “How I Learned (To Say Goodbye)”.
“Hurtin’ My Heart” is a fuzz & Farfisa driven tune, that everybody on the dancefloor will dig. “How I Learned (To Say Goodbye)” is a jangly three part harmony pop song but with a high energy twist!
This is a 7″ that both sounds and looks ’60s-stylish (with flap outer sleeve) and every DJ will need in their box! (Soundflat)
