The Moody Blues | Voices In The Sky | Deram | 1968 | This wistful single (French release) by The Moody Blues is the latest introduction into my ’psychedelic sky’ series of records. Both sides appeared later on their symphonic rock album ”In Search Of The Lost Chord” but here they are in their edited mono mix.

”Voices In The Sky” written by their lead guitarist and singer Justin Hayward was recorded during March 1968 and on it’s release in the Summer of 1968 proved to be a decent sized hit, eventually reaching No.27 in the UK Chart.

THE MOODY BLUES – “Voices In The Sky” (Deram) | Quite the best record I’ve heard from this lot since “Go Now” (but wasn’t that practically a different group anyway?). Catchy tune and nice simple treatment for most of the way.

It’s very hard to get groups that have had their day back on the scene, but if those concerned can overcome this natural bias they could have a hit on their hands, as usual, depending on television and airplay. Nice. Quiet, but nice. (Top Pops, 06/07/68)

THE MOODY BLUES – “Voices In The Sky” / “Legend Of A Mind” (Deram DM 196) | From the LP ‘In Search Of The Lost Chord’, this is a rather wonderous production. I’m not saying it’s instantly to be labelled “for the charts” because there is a lot happening and it takes time to register, but if justice still prevaileth then it will make it.

Excellently sung and the backing is quite tremendous but in a restrained sort of style. Great lyrics. FLIP: Let’s just say it’s value for money. (Record Mirror, 29/06/68)
