“Till The End Of The Day” / “Where Have All The Good Times Gone” (Pye 7N.15981) November 1965
The Kinks | Till The End Of The Day | (Pye) 1965 | Another Ray Davies composition, with all the usual Kinks trappings and hallmarks – storming stomp beat with crashing tambourine, that strident and insistent guitar riff which characterises much of their work, and Ray’s familiar nasal vocal with the boys chanting in the background. (NME, 26/11/65)
Assuming “publishing troubles” are sorted out, this’ll be a cert hit. Ray Davies’ composition and un-mistakenly Kink-y in the backing sound. It’s pushed along relentlessly with a good vocal arrangement. Perhaps not distinctive enough to be a really big biggie. Flip has the same sort of pace and gritty determination. (Record Mirror, 20/11/65)
An odd Kinks record that sounds very old. It’s not very good either. Although the basic Ray Davies song is interesting – about being in love from the moment dawn breaks until the end of the day.
Some good words but the whole thing is smothered in foul noise. “Where Have All The Good Times Gone” is better, clearer, but un-Kinklike. (Disc Weekly, 20/11/65)
