Bobby Comstock and the Counts | “Out Of Sight” | (Ascot) 1966

“I Don’t Believe You” is my pick from the LP | Bobby Comstock and the Counts – ‘Out Of Sight’ (Ascot ALS 16026) May 1966

Bobby Comstock and the Counts | “Out Of Sight” | (Ascot) 1966 | This is their very first album and it certainly is long overdue.

Bobby and the boys are practically a legend in the pop music world even though they are all in their early twenties. When the big, red-hot sears go out on tour — whether it be The Rolling Stones, Gerry And The Pacemakers, The Dave Clark Five.

Bobby Rydell or Chubby Checker — Bobby And The Counts are the lads whose services are demanded to lend musical support. And on these same appearances, our group really fractures audiences with their singing and playing in their own solo spots.

BOBBY COMSTOCK And The Counts are purveyors of “blues-rock”. In other words, they dish out the swinging rhythms that our grooving younger set dances to, and the sounds that keep the kids’ ears glued to their radios for long hours at a stretch.

Our collection. “OUT OF SIGHT”, is a prime example of the melodic excitement that this group creates. The material is a solid blending of fine new songs and rock standards, done to a fine turn. “OUT OF SIGHT” may very well be the most complimentary phrase used by our hippies, and it definitely applies to the performances contained herein.

Here are some points of interest about BOBBY COMSTOCK And The Counts. Bobby hails from Ithaca in up-state New York, the home of Cornell University. He excels at the guitar and the harmonica, is an avid sports buff, and is twenty-three years old.

The Counts all come from the same bailiwick as Comstock. They are Gus Eframson who not only plays, but also teaches the guitar — he’s the studious one — Dale Sherwood the drummer, who is kiddingly referred to as the girl chaser of the outfit — and Chuck Ciaschi, bassist, who is a car and gadget fiend.

BOBBY COMSTOCK And The Counts have been together since 1958. They have been cheered to the rafters at most of the major colleges east of the Mississippi. and present pop music at its finger-snapping, toe-tapping best. The boys are on their way to full-fledged stardom. They are truly “OUT OF SIGHT”.

BOBBY COMSTOCK – ’I’m A Man’/’I’ll Make You Glad’ (Ascot 2175) April 1965

Here’s a first for ’Flower Bomb Songs’. Your author and International Playboy EXPO67 has been drinking Jack Daniel’s all evening and I’m nearly as pissed as Keith Moon was back in 1974 when Mr Moon and his best mate Ringo were indulging in the odd tipple at ’Ringo Towers’

Trouble is that when I’ve had a few too many I get even more opinionated than I normally am or at least that’s what ’Er Indoors says . . . Anyway, here’s a red hot double sider by Bobby Comstock (surely in need of a ’Best Of’ on Sundazed).

BOBBY COMSTOCK – ’I’m A Man’/’I’ll Make You Glad’ (Ascot 2175) April 1965

Bobby hailed from Ithaca, New York and with his band The Counts, had been releasing 45s since the late 50s. Then The Beatles and The Stones killed everything in America pre 1964 so Mr Comstock wanted some of that invasion action.

’I’m A Man’ is a killer rendition by a group of musicians clearly at home in the studio. It was also part of the neglected ”Out Of Sight” album released in 1966.

The flip ’I’ll Make You Glad’ is also pretty neat and is non LP and non comp. Checking the label credits it was written and produced by the collection of whizz kids who recorded as The Strangeloves.
