Fragments
disraeli | What Will The New Day Bring? | Mantra Records | ‘Fragments’ is a new series of music mixes on ‘The Monocled Alchemist’ where I focus on one psychedelic era underground group and bring all of their single sides together, possibly for the first ever time.
My attention is given to disraeli, a little known group from Astoria, Oregon, who released four singles on Mantra Records between 1967 / 1970.
Their singles are difficult to obtain nowadays but do show up occasionally on eBay and private sales on Facebook etc.

Several of the numbers have been compiled over the years on limited LP and CD pressings but some tracks have never seen the light of day since the sixties.
For some strange reason the group decided to name their band after a Victorian British Prime Minister and whenever their name was written down on record labels and sleeves it was always in lower case.
Line-up:
Steven Mathre (lead vocals)
Al Nelson (vocals / sax) died 2013
Thomas Strangland (guitar)
Roger Everett (guitar / vocals)
Steve Kernes (bass)
Gene Faust (drums) died 2009
The record labels indicate that their records were self-produced but I have read elsewhere that established record producer Richard Keefer was involved. The latter worked with The Sound Vender and The United Travel Service, and many others.
