The Lyrics | My Son | (GNP Crescendo) 1966 | A LYRICAL GROUP — One of the popular musical groups among the teen set is the Lyrics, a quartet of North County youths who play and sing at local dances and parties.
‘Lyrics’ Are Favourites Of Teen Dance Set
The Lyrics, a band originating in the heart of our area has once again started their climb to the top of the entertainment world.
Last year the group reached local and Southern California fame, but then disbanded for personnel reasons. After acquiring some of the best musicians they could find, they re-organized.
The Lyrics have been planning for a big comeback since they are soon to release their newest record, “My Son,” a song written by Cardiffite Craig Carl, the lead singer and rhythm guitar for the group. Harlan Peacock, the Lyrics’ manager, commented about Carl, “For a kid of seventeen, that kid’s a genius.”
My Son
“My Son” has been taped and sent to various radio stations all over the country as a preview before it’s released. The Lyrics’ last record, “They Can’t Hurt Me” and “So What,” were on the Era Label. They intend to switch them to their own company they have organized, the Feather Label. “My Son” will be appearing on the G.N.P. Crescendo Label. This is a very large recording agency in Hollywood.
A few of the stations intending to boost the Lyrics’ new record are KFRC in San Francisco, KGB in San Diego, KFMX in San Bernardino, KUDE in Oceanside, KDEO in El Cajon, WLS in Chicago, KOWN in Escondido, and a few stations in Florida.
What ignited a spark in the career of the Lyrics, was their band being listed in national professional magazines entitled “Cash Box” and “Billboard.” These magazines are published in New York with the listings of various bands and private entertainers that show potential and possibly national fame. The publications are distributed throughout the country to radio stations, bands and other professional entertainers.
Don Ralke, of Hollywood aranges the music for the Lyrics. He is one of the things that adds a touch of professional to their band. Also adding a little glamour to their image is $1500 worth of Mod clothing they purchased.
The Lyrics aren’t reaching too far or fast for their fame. They have appeared with many famous bands and professional singers. They have been billed with such stars as The Association, Glen Campbell, Neal Diamond, The Ramsey Lewis Trio, and several others.

The Righteous Brothers, one of the great rock n’ roll duos, have asked permission to use the Lyrics’ latest song, “My Son.” They have mentioned to Peacock that they may like to use other Lyric songs.
Members of the Lyrics have said that appearing on TV 8 Dance Time more than once has boosted their popularity considerably.
It has been asked why the Lyrics have met such approval with band critiques and people of the entertainment world. The group and their manager seem to think this is due to their branching out. They have learned to cope with people of the entertainment world, and what they are like. From this, they have gained added experience.
Other members of the band, besides Carll are Billy Garcia of Oceanside, who plays the lead and rhythm guitar; Danny Garcia, who plays the bass guitar; and Danny Reyes of Oceanside, who plays the drums.
