The Lords Of The New Church | New Church | (Illegal) 1982 | This snarling slice of aggravation would’ve made it to the top were it not for the quivering excesses of Ms Bondage’s bottom.

Brian James (ex-Damned, Tanz der Youth, Brains Ad infinitum) and Stiv Bators (ex Dead Boys) have penned a vicious, violent anthem that steams with frame-bruising indignancy out of the windy hinterlands of redundancy.

It’s a mean sort of a bitch of a single, and it’s a winner. More gritty than a wedge of sandstone, it prowls like school of sharks just itching to chomp off a limb.

Stiv, the perennial snot, drawls with a conviction that more than compensates for his unfortunate ramblings with the ill fated Wanderers and James looks as if he’s found a workable band at last. (Sounds, 24/04/82)

Sounds pretty much what you’d expect from an aggregation of former Damned, Sham 69, and Dead Boys bodies. That appeals to you? Go and buy it then, since you’re clearly a lost cause. (Record Mirror, 24/04/82)
