“See Those Eyes” / “How About That Then (I’ve Missed My Train)” (Epic EPC A2198) March 1982
Altered Images | See Those Eyes (Epic) 1982 | This does not have the bright, Alcan tin foil attraction of ‘I Could Be Happy’, it utilises a chugging, instead of bouncing, motion. Clare’s little girl squeal that so typified their earlier releases, has been smoothed over in the final mix, creating a more mature sound.
This notwithstanding, it will undoubtedly be a mammoth hit, although personally I preferred the tinny innocence of ‘I Could Be Happy’. Then again, when their last single was released I disliked it intensely – there’s just no pleasing me sometimes! (Sounds, 13/03/82)

Altered Images | See Those Eyes (Epic) 1982
Another triumph of the producer’s art. Martin Rushent takes a plain enough song, blessed with (of all things) a Dollar riff, and turns it into the third slice of crafted, emphatic and individual sounding pop for the Images.
Whether you regard it as classic, disposable stuff or artificial pap depends largely on your attitude – I dither between reluctant but genuine admiration and emotional rockish condemnation.
Who gives a toss what you think.” trill Altered Images as they skip gaily up to the top five, and I dare say they have a point. (Record Mirror, 20/03/82)

Altered Images recall one of those trampolined fairground chambers where the only way to stand on your own two feet is to bounce around giggling madly. Young, foamy and bright! Stay a moment too long and your stomach will begin to reject the fairground hot-dogs you fed it.
Of course the secret to Altered Images’ success is due solely to the sterile yet searing sex appeal that she shares with her exact counterpart Nicholas Haircut. They look so clean that their little fans want to get them dirty . . . (NME, 13/03/82)
