THE ROOKIES – ’Half Of Wednesday’ and others (Teen Sound 006) 1998
The Rookies | Teen Sound Singles | (Teen Sound) 1998-2000 | Italian group The Rookies were purveyors of the mid-sixties psych garage sound, releasing two very obscure four track EPs on Teen Sound Records. These records had limited pressings of around 700 copies but with some research can still be found online.
The eight recordings featured are all cover versions of much-loved garage classics, and demonstrate their accurate and purist approach to “Sometimes”, by The Zoo, (find this crude lo-fi lament on ‘Teenage Shutdown’ – I’m Down Today).
“Anyhow Anywhere” by The Squires, another long lost number is given The Rookies treatment. It appears that they dug this one from the CD comp ‘The Scorpio Story’ on Big Beat Records.

The 1966 raver “She Was Good” by The Talismen is faithful to the original and so too is the One Way Street‘s “I See The Light”, both cuts are expertly recorded.
Perhaps the best offering is The Rookies spectacular rendition of the moody psychedelic masterpiece “The Setting Of Despair”, by Crystal Chandelier.
