The Killing Floors | You Know It Ain’t Right | (Outro) 2023

“Too Far Gone” / “You Know It Ain’t Right” (Outro Records 047) October 2023

The Killing Floors | You Know It Ain’t Right | (Outro) 2023 | Los Angeles is a hotbed of sixties-style garage bands, all of them, at least the ones I’m aware of, keep releasing solid self-penned original blasts of teenbeat mayhem that are ready made for mass consumption.

If only they had the same media exposure as their heroes enjoyed back in tyme. Who knows, the Sunset Strip could once again be an epicentre of coolness.

The Killing Floors crawled out of their Bat Cave with a strong demo debut of four homemade digital downloads in 2017. Find these on their bandcamp page.

The tracks demonstrated that this new group were destined to create punkoid menace in their home City and beyond given the chance.

There have been several gig snapshots uploaded to YouTube confirming that they are indeed a powerful live-and-in-person combo with an authentic sound.

The Killing Floors released a couple of fast-selling singles in 2023 including this double-sided gem on the always impressive Outro Records label. It took me a while to find a copy from a seller in England, so distribution could be better.

“Too Far Gone” has that garage punk sound I’ve enjoyed for decades. It’s hard not to instantly become enamoured with the dominant compact organ frills, exciting fuzz guitar, heavy bass, punk drums and vocal attitude of the singer.

These lads look and sound like the garage punk outlaws they are. Imagine The Killing Floors having a rave-up on that corporate shit-show a.k.a. ‘Later With Jools Holland’, now that would be a magnificent sight to behold.

“You Know It Ain’t Right” on the flip is very much in the ? and the Mysterians bag, Purist garage-edged rhythm and beat including a convincing lead guitar break, backing vocals and is probably quite danceable if you’re not over the hill.

The future looks hopeful with brand new recordings promised in 2025 but it seems that Mario Garcia, Jr has left to pursue his own scene and some numbers from him have since emerged as The L.A. Smog, but only as digital downloads.

He has also appeared on the latest Sound Reasons four-track EP ‘Today’s Another Day’, contributing guitar and original song material.
