The Beau Brummels | Sad Little Girl | (Pye International) 1965

“Sad Little Girl” taken from the LP ‘Beau Brummels | Just A Little and others (Breakaway Records BWY 68) 1983

The Beau Brummels | Sad Little Girl | (Pye International) 1965 | Ah, my introduction to the fabulous Beau Brummels. According to my records I bought this in a Sunderland record shop in 1984, a year after its release. I probably read somewhere that they sounded like the Byrds.

At that time information was scant to say the least, so a purveyor of sixties music had to take a chance, usually based on the group photos adorning any release. The weird thing being that the Beau Brummels are depicted here as illustrations.

This LP quickly became one of my all-time favourite records, every track is a folk-rock gem. Totally my scene back in the eighties when I was immersing myself with obscure 60s groups from America.

The Beau Brummels | Sad Little Girl | (Pye International) 1965

The Beau Brummels meant absolutely nothing in Britain but despite that Pye International kept trying to break them over here during 1965. But after four flop singles the label gave up, even abandoning a proposed single in 1966.

I’ve since acquired the knowledge to know that the budget label Breakaway used all eight sides of the 45s for their magical compilation. “Sad Little Girl”, the unreleased single (despite being given a Pye International label number) and “Ain’t That Loving You Baby” were added to create a ten-track album.

Back-cover words

The year 1965 produced a total of six Top 100 chart records for the Beau Brummels. This incredible achievement was highlighted by their biggest hit “Just A Little” which was a Top 10 record for the group.

This album contains four of the group’s other top hits and is an essential addition to the collection of any devoted Beau Brummels fan.
