The Sences – “Done With You” (Lost In Tyme LIT 45-015) June 2023

Greece has a long history of amazing garage punk groups dating back to the original ’60s Beat era and I’m pleased to see that a new and very young band of cave teens are keeping the fuzz flame alive.

The Sences are from Salonica and are made up of five rebels, no older than seventeen years of age, at least when this three song single was released on the ever reliable Lost In Tyme label.

The absolute highlight is their thundering fuzz punk number “Done With You” which has everything for old garage punks like me to blast out LOUD, uncontrollably flip out and perhaps chuck some chairs around the living room.

Cave-teen Beat is rare these days so The Sences have to be admired in wanting to play this form of rebellious rock and roll.

I hope they continue to earn their stripes on the gig circuit and write more killer non-tunes.

“Behind Me” has a slower pace but even more unadulterated fuzz guitar, anger and troublemaking vocals. The back of the sleeve indicates that the vocals and lead guitar are from a kid called Zan.

Over on the B-side there is a hidden gem. “Be Over” is a moody jangler with constant high-pitched Farfisa organ, effective drum patterns and reflective tones. I can’t make out the words but I can feel the singers pain.

A brilliant first single from a highly rated band, at least in my house.
