New England Teen Scene: The Plagues – ‘To Wander’ (1966)

The Plagues – “To Wander” / “Cherry Pie” (Ron Records 1,000) April 1966

My latest New England Teen Scene heroes are a group of high school musicians calling themselves The Plagues. During their brief existence in the mid-sixties they hung around long enough to make an imprint on the rock and roll history of Taunton, MA.

The Plagues were very popular and for a time the house band at the Cotillion Ballroom in Taunton, but playing throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

In 1965 they recorded two songs at a Boston studio resulting in a self-financed but sadly one-off 45 on Ronald Records.

New England Teen Scene | To Wander

“To Wander” is a mournful, funeral-paced, jangle lament. The lovelorn vocals sound like they’re emanating from a death bed while the melancholic organ and subtle drums add more woeful textures. A classic!!
