Teen Beat angst-ridden recordings
New England Teen Scene | I’m currently making my way through the mountains of ’60s garage psych compilations I’ve collected over the decades, homing in on one track, not necessarily my favourite, but a number that is just too achingly great to ignore.
New England Teen Scene – Volume 3 (Moulty Records MLP 104) was released during 1991. It wasn’t an item that I picked up at the time because I remember during that period I was buying obscure soft psych American studio LPs, mail order from Funhouse Records and Sugarbush Records.
Anyway, this is a recent purchase and I’ve been playing it non-stop all weekend.
My go to track could have been The Summer Sounds lament “First Date” or the equally haunting “No More” by The Stonemen.
However, my choice cut goes to Saco, ME group Euphoria’s Id and their manic rocker “Deception’s Ice”.

“Deception’s Ice” was released on the back of “Hey Joe” on their self-financed label Eadit. According to sources the release month was July 1967.
The former is clearly the most potent side.
The aggressive use of percussion and maximum trebly guitar slingshots combined with the angry outbursts from the singer relaying the cheating and lying of his girlfriend makes this cut the stand-out on the New England Teen Scene LP. No wonder it was given lead-off track.
Surprisingly, there is a wikipedia page devoted to the history of Euphoria’s Id.
