Paul Messis ‘Win Or Lose’ – Vintage Garage Sound

Paul Messis – “Win Or Lose” / “Please Don’t Tell Me Why” (Market Square Records MSR-028) March 2021

Paul Messis ‘Win Or Lose’ | has released several records since his first single, “Stuck In Society” (State Records) exactly fifteen years ago.

Each and every release comes and goes with no self promotion or hullaballoo.

is usual method of communication is to let people know of new material is by mailshot via his DIY record label, Market Square Records

He shuns social media and almost outcasts himself from society, although he does maintain a Bandcamp page for his sporadic releases.

Win or lose

“Win Or Lose” is his best song since his sparkling folk-rock trip “Time Will Tell.” Man, I love that record, so it just goes to show how much I rate this latest one.

Two new numbers were recorded by Paul in his living room during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown. No fancy studio. No array of musicians.

Just Paul and his gear producing beautiful soundscapes to convey his reflective words on the abject world around us.

His records are not for everyone, it is not commercial pop music. His great talent is recreating an authentic mid-sixties vintage garage sound.

He paints sonic pictures with jangling guitars, tremolo and reverb. His brush strokes create deep textures of loneliness, despair and anguish.

The single is limited to 300 copies.
