Marcia Strassman | The Flower Shop | UNI | 1967 | This young girl has featured a few times on my blog in the past. Go here for details. Her debut disc “The Flower Children” was a sizeable hit in Los Angeles and UNI were impressed enough to release a follow-up a couple of months later.

Sadly though, the plaintive “The Groovy World Of Jack And Jill”, co-written by producer Jerry Goldstein, didn’t take off despite having the word ‘groovy’ in the title. But I think they missed a trick by promoting this number because the flip “The Flower Shop” is much more memorable.

In truth “The Flower Shop” is virtually a re-write of “The Flower Children” but given that the record was released at the height of the flower power scene, it seemed that anything about flowers would have sold in large quantities. Oh well, at least Marcia got the picture cover treatment.

Cash Box review:
“The Groovy World Of Jack And Jill”Marcia Strassman might well have a winning item on her hands with this touching, poetic ballad. moving effort by the lark. No information on the flip side at this time. (08/07/67)
